Les Veys
The Area of Les Veys
lies within the Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands regional nature Park,
which is a protected nature area. Although the village is small it has a
lot of things to discover. There is a ‘nature park discovery day trip’ a
guided tour of Les Ponts d’ Ouve with a meal prepared using local
produce including a boat trip on the river Douve or Taute. There is also
a 16th Century Manor open to the public which is a showcase of tourism,
it has a restaurant and shop with local produce. La Greve is an ancient
monument and there are two spectacular churches, Beuzeville and Auville.
Atelier de peinture (painter’s studio) is a permanent exhibition of
local works and crafts based on the marshes, summer courses available on
request. If you really want to experience the beauty of the area the try
‘Les Vents d’ Ouest’ a hot air balloon over the park which lasts 3
hours.Within the area of the park you can find an enormous variety of
activities including, rambling, sand yachting and sailing at Carentan or
Isigny. Boat trips from either Carentan or Isigny. Horse riding at
Trevieres. Donkey ramble (something different) at Marchesieux. Golf
courses, fishing, all found locally.
There are also 3 circuits of
the battle of Normandie history tours which pass through the Cotentin
and Bessin Park;
D-Day ‘Le Choc’ (D-Day The Clash), which
retraces the advance towards Saint- Lo of the American Troops who came
ashore at Omaha Beach.
Objectif – ‘Un Port’ (Objective – A
Port), which recalls the advance of the paratroopers who landed at St –
Mere – Eglise.
Cobra – ‘La Percee’ (Cobra – The Breakout),
advancement of troops from Cherbourg to Avranches culminating in the
victorious breakout at Avranches.
This depicts a small selection
of activities on offer; also see our section ‘Things to do’ which will
give you more places of interest and activities.
Our Cottage is
in an ideal location for a relaxing holiday where all tastes can be
catered for. It is in the countryside yet within minute’s drive of the
historic D Day beaches and memorials. The imposing city of Caen is
within 1 hours drive. Because of the location of the property touring
and sightseeing is very easy with most attractions in Manche and West
Calvados being within 1 hours drive. French markets are held in most
villages on various days and well worth a visit for fresh produce and a
taste of the French way of life.
