St Mere Eglise was the
first town to be liberated on the night of 5th – 6th June
1944. The Airborne Museum comprises two buildings in a
3000m2 park near the church which is on the village
square. The first building in the form of a parachute,
houses a genuine Waco glider along with many other
displays with vintage documents, testimonies, weapons,
munitions, material and a liberty torch… A film ‘Crusade
in Europe’ relates the events of 5th and 6th June
1944. In the second building, which is shaped like a
delta parachute houses a C-47 plane (Dakota); this plane
dropped paratroopers in the area and towed gliders on the
6th June 1944. Many mannequins in uniforms and personal
objects offered by American veterans are on display. A 15
